BWD Guide 3: Maloriak
Maloriak is third boss in Blackwing Descent instance. He is big Dragonkin boss who is standing in front of huge cauldron. He has special ability to throw three different vials into the cauldron. With every vial he uses, he has different abilities.
Through the whole fight Maloriak uses these abilities:
- Arcane Storm: 6 second channeling spell, which looks like blue-white lightnings that hits everyone in the room. Deals 14.137-15.862 arcane damage per second. We need 1 person which will interrupt every Arcane storm in the fight. Maloriak has 2 sec. cooldown on it, but casts this spell every 10-15 sec.
- Remedy: Buff which Maloriak casts on himself. It heals him for 25.000hp every second and this effect boosts self by another 25.000hp every second it is up. So first sec. 25k, second 50k, third 75k etc. We need to either spellsteal it, or dispell it. If main tank is a warrior, he can also use his shield slam to dispell it.
- Release Aberrations: 1.5 sec cast spell, which calls 3 Aberrations from their chambers. There is 18 chambers in the room, so total amount of abberations summoned during the fight is 18. Note, that immediately after Maloriak reaches 25%hp and enters the 2nd Phase, he releases all unsommoned aberrations at once. He calls aberrations 6 times every 3 vial full cycle.
Aberrations: small adds called by group of 3 have one ability: Growth Catalyst: buff that increases nearby allies damage dealt by 20% and reduces damage they take by 20%. Affects all allies in 10y so it stacks up, so when you have 3 of them – 60% more damage done, 60% less damage taken.
Phase 1:
Maloriak starts with no vial in cauldron. Then he throws one vial, blue or red into the cauldron, and than the other one. Third vial is always green. After green vial, he repeats the process. To be able to get kill in enrage timer, we have only 2 cycles of vials.
Red vial (stack up phase):
- Scorching Blast: Huge 60 yard cone breath spell, it deals 500.000 fire damage splited into everyone who is hit. This is the reason, why everyone is needed to stand near the tank.
- Consuming Flames: Debuff DoT which deals you 4.500 fire damage per second. Damage is increased rapidly whenever you get any other damage. If you get this dot, stand away from front cone to not get hit by Scorching Blast, melees can still attack from behind the Maloriak.
Blue vial (spread phase):
- Bitting Chill: DoT on random player which deals 5.000 frost damage every second and has AoE range.
- Flash Freeze: This spell traps random player and everyone in 6 yards into the freezing prison. It deals 70.687-79.312 frost damage to everyone in range. In addition, when you break prison (it has only 20.000 hp) it deals another 56.550-63.450 frost damage to everyone in range. So we have to break prisons by ranged dps. We should have 2 ranged dps, which will be concentrating on this spell and break people from it. Dont forget to give healers time to heal target, or otherwise you can kill the prisoner by realesing him.
Green vial (spawn phase):
- Debilitating Slime: Maloriak covers everyone in room at the start of the green phase with this debuff. It increases damage taken by 100% and also removes Growth Catalyst buff from Aberrations, but Slime lasts only 15 seconds.
- Also on the start of the green phase, Maloriak will kick everyone in melee range and throw them into the entrance of the room. For everyone who is kicked by Maloriak, the whole group get less dps on adds, so you need to go to entrance before Maloriak starts his green phase.
Phase 2:
Maloriak will start with Release all Minions, which wiill call every unreleased Aberration and also 2 Primal Subjects – 2 big adds which are needed to be picked up by off-tank quickly, because they use Fixate after a few seconds and they dont chase they target until they die.
In second phase, Maloriak doesnt use vials, so there are no green, blue and red phases. Instead of them, he uses free new abilities and we still cant forget on Remedy.
- Acid Nova: deals 7.500 nature damage per second to all enemies for 10 sec. We cant do nothing else than heal it through
- Absolute Zero: is freezing orb that moves to target and when it reachs ihim/her, it explodes and deals 47.125-52.875 frost damage. Watch out and move away from it.
- Magma Jet: Is front cone ground flame, which deals damage to target and leaves DoT on him. Tank should be faced with Maloriak against the wall, so Jet does not covers so much floor in the room, everyone other should be standing behind the Maloriak.
Tactics:
How to handle with Maloriaks abilities was already described. Basicly we need to gather up on same spot in red phase and spread the raid up in blue phase. Most difficult thing on fight with Maloriak is to call right number of adds and deal with them.

INTERRUPTION CYCLE:
- 1st calling is made in the start of fight when Maloriak have not throw any vial into th cauldron - Interrupt.
- 2nd calling is made in first (blue or red) phase of first cycle - let go through and kill them one by one
- 3rd calling is made in first (same colour as before) phase of first cycle - Interrupt
- 4th calling is made in second (opposite colour to first) phase of first cycle - let go through
- 5th calling is made in second (opposite colour to first) phase of first cycle - let go through
- GREEN PHASE - kill remaining 6 adds in first 15 seconds
- 6th calling is made in green phase of first cycle - Interrupt
- 7th calling is made in green phase of first cycle - Interrupt
- CYCLE 2
- 8th to 11th calling is same as 2nd to 5th just repeat the process, again kill first thre one by one as soon as they appear.
- GREEN PHASE - kill the last 6 adds in first 15 sec
- AT 25% Maloriaks HP - PHASE 2
- 2 Prime Subjects are released, let the OT to aggro them and down the boss
