BoT Guide 2: Valiona and Theralion

24/06/2011 15:50

These twin dragons are second encounter in Bastion of Twilight raid instance. Valiona should be not new for you, because she is also a part of Drahga Shadowburner encounter in Grim Batol, where she survives, when she leaves warlock to his own fate. Even though, there are two bosses in this encounter, you need only one tank for it, because only one dragon stands on the ground, the second one flies in the air. Fight always starts with Valiona. Dragons share their HP pool, so if you can dot both dragons at once, than you are favour dps for this encounter.

Valiona:

Valiona's phase is first one. She will attack you from the ground, while Theralion is flying above in the air. Position the boss in the center of the room, raid should be spreaded 8y away from each other. Valiona does two offensive abilities in her phase: Blackout and Devouring Flames, Theralion does one: Twilight Blast.

Blackout: Blackout is a debuff that Valiona casts on random target and it absorbs 40.000 healing done to target plus it deals 341.250 - 358.750 shadow damage to all players in 8 yards when it expires or it is dispelled. To handle this, all raid has to gather up on some given spot (for JaA it is warlock's green portal and during transition phase it is dragons tail if rl calls it) to quickly dispell the debuff and share the damage. You have to spread quickly after that.

Devouring Flames: casts Valiona just few seconds after the Blackout and it is same 180° breath, as she used in Grim Batol. It deals 80.000 shadow damage every 1sec, but damages are lower the further you stand from her head. You should stand behind the dragon anyway.

Twilight Blast: is Theralion's ability during Valiona's phase. It is shadow meteor which is casted on random raid members and deals 29.250 - 30.750 damage to all enemies in 8 yards range, not shared. Target spot of meteor is not moving, so if you get targeted by it, you can easily move away. This spell is also reason, why to stand 8 yards from each other.

Valiona does Blackout followed by Devouring Flames two times during her phase and than comes the transition phase. Valiona uses her Dazzling Destruction ability: large purple swirling whirpools on the ground, which disappear after few seconds. If you stand on them while they disappear, you will be sent to Twilight Realm, so just move away from them. After a while, Valiona flies up and Theralion lands down, his phase begins.

If you get into twilight realm: you will be in the same room as before, but you wont see people out of realm and they wont see you. Your goal is to go to some of the portals but you have to avoid pink globes on the ground as they do massive damage and probably kills you and same with twilight fiends there.

Theralion:

Theralion should be tanked in the middle of the room again, ranged dps + healers stack up on the given spot (JaA - again warlock's portal), melees stands on the side of the boss. Theralion uses two abilities: Engulfing Magic and Fabulous Flames, Valiona casts Twilight Meteorite.

Fabulous Flames: is area spell, which deals 14.625 - 15.375 shadow damage every sec. You can see it as purple void zone on the ground and it is casted on random raid mamber in range. To handle this ability, raid is stacked up and every time, when flames appears, you have to move clockwise in great circle shape out of it. You have to move just near the border of the zone, otherwise you will mess the ground up with flames and you wont have any space left to manuever during transition.

Engulfing Magic: Most difficult ability to handle in this encounter. It is a buff+debuff casted on random ranged player which increases damage and healing done by 100% but it also deals shadow damage equals of your damage/healing done to all raid members in 10 yards range. To handle this, immediately stop dps/healing when you are targeted with spell and move away at least 10 yards fom raid and when you stand safe, you can burst and profit from your buff.

Twilight Meteorite: is Valiona's spell. It is aid missile, so you cant move away from it (to the opposite of Twilight Blast). It deals massive 146.250 - 153.750 shadow damage shared by all players in 6 yards. If you get targeted, you will see purple arrow above your head few seconds before the meteorite strikes. To handle this, stay with ranged (if you are healer/ranged dps and you dont have engulfing magic at the same time) or move to tank if you are melee. Melees have duty to watch other players in melee and if they see someone with arrow, they have to gather up near tank quickly. If you are afraid about it, just stand where tank stands all the time, you will just loose few % of damage because of parry.

During transition phase, Valiona will do 3 consecutive flying attacks called Deep Breath and will cover one third of the room with flames. Flames are always positioned from left to right on middle or on entrance side or on opposite side. Someone from raid should always watch her and call where flames are going. If you get hit, you will suffer some damage and will be sent to twilight realm. After three deep breath attacks, dragon again swap and Valiona's phase beginns again. Be aware of her fast Blackout!
